The weather was hot and dry, but the walk was only a mile and I didn't hear any complaints among the 2,000 participants in LA's Walk for Epilepsy. I was there with my daughter, Elizabeth, and she was there with her best friend, Addie. They both have epilepsy. They both also have the same birthday: Halloween.
Funny enough, although they've only known each other for a year, their lives have circled around each other's for probably over a decade. They have mutual friends from vastly different parts of their lives. One middle school friend of Elizabeth has known Addie since preschool, and she would tell Addie, "I know another girl with epilepsy. Her birthday is also on Halloween, and she really likes animals too."
And then, of course, they found each other because when the whole universe is conspiring in your favor miracles are bound to happen.

The week is young, but I'm pretty sure that's the very best story I'm going to find no matter which continent I visit. And the lovely Elizabeth bears more than a passing resemblance to her mom -- lucky girl.
Wonderful story and photo! It's good to hear about miracles happening....
Happy birthday week to Elizabeth and Addie! Two stars in the universe who were meant to meet. I love this story.
Interesting the way their lives spiraled toward each other. Thanks.
Happy birthday to both.
Well, that put a smile on my face. If you know anyone who's in a bad mood, send them this. Happy birthday, ladies.
Happy birthdays to Elizabeth and Addie!
Happy Birthday to these two lovely ladies. That is, honestly, the very best story I've heard in a very long time. I'm tearing up over here.
Oh I love this post, Margaret. I'm so happy for Elizabeth that she has a friend like Addie!
What a beautiful friendship! And how about those 2,000 giving souls along with you on your walk. There really is a heck of a lot of good in this world.
