Granted, the traffic is horrible, there is the occasional earthquake, there is heavy consumption of kale, and people will wear yoga pants even to church, but...
It is January and I am eating lettuce from my own garden.
You can't grow everything this time of year. I tried beans, but we had two nights of frost. It was a tragic lose, but we are coping the best we can.
The Swiss Chard looks like its in league with Lance Armstrong. Behind it you can spy brussel sprouts; lots of leaves, but will I ever get my little baby cabbages?
Did you know arugula flowers? And when the leaves get too big they are awfully bitter. Don't tell it, but it will probably be pulled out soon. I hope it will enjoy the brief time it has left.
(PS: on another note entirely, I notice my novel has gotten a few more reviews on Goodreads and Amazon lately, and at least one reviewer found the book from the blog. Yay! My most sincerest of thanks for your taking the time to review The Goddess Lounge. Really, really.)

I see posts like yours, Margaret, and I'm tempted momentarily to attempt a miniature vege garden. Then some kind of pastry comes along to distract me. I do love eating veges, though, even if I don't grow them. And Yay for the increase in reviews. I will get myself into gear and add mine. {And yes, it will be glowing.}
Ha! "In league with Lance." :-) Will the Swiss chard never learn?? Your garden is beautiful. We are growing only broccoli. It's looking lovely, but no real product on the horizon for us either. Maybe a blog photo will shame it into action...

She absolutely didn't take the pictures at my place. I have kale, kale, kale, and kale, with a little lettuce in between. Margaret's garden, on the other hand, is most impressive.
That frost was unexpected and out of order, wasn't it? We gave up on our veggie garden when we got so few veggies it seemed a shame to eat them.
So refreshing to see green plants and thinking of fresh veggies from the garden. Looks like you have a Green Thumb!

That chard certainly looks robust. Shame about the beans. I keep trying to grow tomatoes but don't have much luck.
Garden looks...green! I must grow kale this year and see if I like it. I usually have garlic coming up at this time, but couldn't plant last Fall because of my "bad" hip.
Have you tried row covers to help the more delicate plants?

Rois, you made me laugh. I've been growing a lot of weed, but it's not the kind you can smoke or sell.
Did your brussle sprouts take on their weight in bugs? better look carefully, mine became a smorgasbord for aphids.
Here's a little secret. Buy your plants from Home Despot. They have a one year return policy. If you have the nerve to bring back dead twigs along with their receipt, they'll give you back your money. It appears that that last freeze killed all my prematurely planted tomatoes
PA: my Brussels sprouts are, I think, bug ridden. My biggest problem is farmer ants.

Traffic? Smog? Congestion? I'll take it all, in return for a winter garden (and the L.A. Phil within driving distance). Too cold in Salinas for gardens in January. Your garden looks great!
