Mother's Day

My family took me to the Getty Villa for Mother's Day.  If you don't know the Getty Villa, it is a beautiful museum in Malibu that is devoted to classical art.  We went to see an exhibit called Aphrodite and the gods of love.  If you can go, you should.  It's fabulous.

When I have a chance, I'll post a picture of me rocking my new Aphrodite tee shirt.  In the meantime, here is an ancient Greek epitaph from a book called Pure Pagan: Seven Centuries of Greek Poems and Fragments.  So far this is my favorite (PS: it helps to know that Zeus is the king of the gods and Bacchus is the god of wine):

An Epigraph

No wonder I slipped, and fell, and died,
Soaked by Zeus outside,
Soaked by Bacchus within.
The odds were two to one
And they were gods.

Good news: I have more photos for the book trailer.  Have you sent me yours?  No!  Why not?  You know it won't be the same without you.

This is Katie.  I think she is a modern Artemis, goddess of the hunt, don't you?

And doesn't this say goddess of the crossroads to you?  I agree.  So Petrea is one of my favorites, Hecate.

That was a great mother's day. Did you see the Fayum Mummy Portraits? Vic and I attended a lecture on them. Wonderful

I thought Artemis was goddess of something else. Mind you, I'm not really up on god stuff.

I can't tell you how honored I am that you posted me with Katie.

The Getty Villa! How perfect! When you get to read Margaret's book, "The Goddess Lounge," you'll know why it's so perfect.

I am so enjoying the photos and seeing which goddess you pick for them.

I have a friend who is a lady blacksmith who's picture I wish I could send you just to see her through your goddess eyes.

I can't think of a better place to spend Mother's Day than at the Getty Villa! I've just been there once, but I want to live. Oh to swim in that pool. Can't wait to see your Aphrodite t-shirt. And what a special thrill to be posted with Petrea! Wow.

Good grief, how many posts have I missed?! Katie and Petrea are fabulous ~ and all of the women you're showing us are wonderful. Authentic, strong and clearly goddess material. {And your new t-shirt sounds great.}

I've never been to the Getty Villa. Now I'm putting it to the top of my L.A. bucket list. The Aphrodite exhibit is the perfect Mother's Day outing for a goddess. I love the epigraph, and I agree with Shell on the goddesses you're posting: authentic, strong and fabulous.

Susan, let me know if you need someone to go with you to the Getty Villa. I haven't been in ages. It's an inspiring place.

I haven't been to Getty villa since it was redone. Now I want to go.

BTW I found the perfect place for my goddess photo. Hope I make it back with a camera in time.

How does the remodeled Getty Villa compare to the original version?
