Goddess of the Week

Deb says I need a goddess for conquering self doubt.  She's absolutely right!  I need the Hindu goddess Durga.

Durga is a warrior goddess.  She had this epic battle with this one shape-shifter demon.  She would chase him, and he would turn into, like, an elephant, so then she would turn into a big elephant-biting bug, and he would turn into, like, a sea monster, so then she would turn into a submarine.  You get the idea. Anyway, whatever obstacles the demon threw at her, or even became himself, she would just adapt to the situation and move full-steam ahead.  She never had any doubts.  She never second guessed herself.  She never became paralyzed by her own indecision or her fears.  She just did what she had to do.  She became whatever she had to be; she gave each challenge her full attention and her full creativity, and, naturally, eventually Durga beat the demon.

Durga reminds us that when faced with obstacles we must press onward, and when we are our biggest obstacle, we must push the accelerator and move forward.  Doe that mean everything will work out exactly the way we want it too?  No.  But that's ok.  Even falling flat on your face is better than living a lesser life of self-sabotaged aspirations. Because, in the end, that's the only way the demon can win.

Channel this goddess: When stuck in the muck of self doubt and insecurity, when facing obstacles and challenges, when you need to MOVE AHEAD.

Need a goddess: I got goddesses! Post a comment explaining what you need or want a goddess for, and then check back in a week or two and see what you got.  It's fun and free! Isn't that enough?

Loved this post! This was just what I needed after a couple of crappy, self-doubting days.

A good reminder for us all - what would we do if we were not fearful? Of course, it helps to have all those hands, except when you have to do your nails ... but I digress!

Yes, the hands would no doubt help, but maybe I'm luckier-- I have al of yu guys.

I believe I need a little Durga, too, and a little patience.

Well, then, ok. Full steam ahead. Or is that too much steam, should it be three-quarter steam. Come to think of it, is steam the best option. Oh, damn, give me a minute here...

That's just what I needed this week. Not only should you plow ahead and keep on keepin' on chasing down your problems, but you should apply every ounce of creativity you have to every situation. Who knows what you'll come up with? The only way to find out is to try!

Now, let's move this wagon train on out and see what's over that next hill.

A fine choice, Margaret. And that scene sounds like something out of Harry Potter.

Hindi religion has all the best looking gods. Loads of arms, Elephant heads, monkeys, and all in vivid colours.
If I was a god, that's what I'd look like.

Sure, sure, easy for Durga to say. She has all those arms to push herself back up again.

Does she taste as good as Green Goddess?

Yup, thats all I've got - or in goddess speak "I could use a few extra hands myself"

I need a goddess that either 1. Gets recognition for all the fabulous things she does, OR 2. Doesn't mind getting no recognition for working her tush off.

Any ideas?

Olga: Well said.

Tony: It's because they aren't afraid to use color.

Lisa: I can get that for you! Check back next week.

I think Durga might be my favorite goddess.
