Now that the election is over...

Can I say three things?

1. How many people need to shoot up workplaces and homes before we accept that something is profoundly wrong?  If we are perversely wrapped up in gun love, can we at least talk about violence as a mental health issue?

2. How many Honey Boo Boos do we need before we are outraged by how reality TV exploits children? Seriously. If you want to act like a moron on national TV, go for it, but you shouldn't be able to sign away the privacy of minors.

3. How many Carl's Jr. or Victoria Secrets TV commercials do we need watch before we throw our screens out the window for just being grossly sexist? It is not a sign of women's liberation that we can show off of our boobs.

And for today's musical accompaniment...

I saw Honey Boo Boo for the first time on a tv spot the other day. That's one sick family. Hopefully people won't encourage it. Have to agree with you about guns and sexism too. We seem to have lost our senses.

I admit I have no clue who Honey Boo Boo might be, but I will forever picture her as a gun toting, bustier wearing tart.

I'm with Olga, I have no idea what Honey Boo Boo, Carl Jnr or Victoria's Secrets are. And you need to do something about this word Captcha, It makes commenting on your posts hard work.

Yes! Yes! Yes! on all accounts. Couldn't have said it better myself!

Yes, our long, national, nightmare is over! Hopefully at least four, as they say, 4 more years.

That song brings back memories. My parents bought the soundtrack to "A Chorus Line" after they saw it on Broadway and my older sisters and their friends sang and acted out "T&A" in our living room.

Margaret, will you run for public office? I hear the rumblings of a rallying cry in your three points, all gems.

Too many, too many, and too many - I agree with your examples wholeheartedly that something is sick and wrong. And, raising girls in the middle of this is scary.

Oh Margaret. I couldn't agree more. Of course, I couldn't identify "Honey Boo Boo" if you pointed it out to me, since I try and avoid "reality" TV like the plague that it is... (and honestly, I just don't have the time for good TV, let alone bad TV...)

Margaret, I also agree with all 3 of your points. There seems to be a shortage of common sense right now....

We got rid of our TV in 2009, the day after Barack Obama's first inauguration. We wanted to see that because it was historic, but we had already had it with TV. And we haven't missed it. So I haven't seen "Honey BooBoo" or the commercials you mention. But we're living in a time when 50% of voters think rape is the victim's fault, so none of this surprises me.

In an economy that continues to cut education funding, it doesn't surprise me that the result is profound ignorance.

I think this one is rather obvious. It is my god-given right, and patriotic duty, to be able to buy a weapon, and, in the nude, shoot people.

All great points, Margaret. {Not that I can imagine ever throwing my TV out the window.}

Desiree, just let us know ahead of time so we can televise it.

Can't top Des (and lord knows I tried).

Sounds like keeping guns out of the hands of Restless people is a safe & sane idea.

We got rid of our t.v.s long ago. Anything I want to see....I look up on the Internet. I hate T.V.

As for guns, though, I have learned that in Switzerland...all men are required to own guns and be trained in their use. It is to protect their home and they have a very low rate of ....uhmmm something.

I'm, of course, from Texas where people do know how to handle guns. Shock. When I was a child, my father went white-wing hunting to get food for us to eat. He would host bar-be-ques in our back yard. Sooo distant from our frozen packaged stuff we now use.
