Goddess of the Week: Brigid

statue of a Celtic goddess, probably Brigid (B...Image via Wikipedia

I would have gotten Pasadena PIO her goddess sooner, but things just keep popping up. My desk begs straightening. My dog demands a belly rub. I must watch Jonas Armstrong in Robin Hood. Oh, and did I mention the dust bunnies are now in active revolt?

But enough about me. Pasadena PIO needs a goddess to ward off procrastination. For her, I offer the Celtic goddess Brigid. Brigid was one fiery goddess. Really. She had a giant flame sticking out of her head. It connected her to the entire universe and is a powerful source of creative energy. When you need someone to light a fire under your butt, she's your gal. When you need a spark of energy, she's your go to goddess.

I'd really love to tell you more, but I'm almost positive I still have some Girl Scout cookies hiding in the freezer, and have you seen Jonas Armstrong? Do you see my problem?

Channel this goddess when trapped in the clutches of procrastination. Unless, of course, you suddenly realize you just can't live without a Sumac beer tankard. In which case, try this.

Need a goddess: I've got plenty! Post a comment telling my what you need and when I'm done watching Robin Hood I'll try and see what I can do. Probably.

Ah, bless you, my friend! I shall worship Brigid faithfully in hopes that I can get ahead of my work! But I shan't even attempt to wear anything of that nature on my head.

Yes, I do see your problem. And I see the solution, why, could it be??? You need to channel Brigid for goodness sake! She'll ignite you to action and that desk will be cleared, fan the flames of creativity and maybe even incinerate the dust bunnies (just keep the dog out of the way). Hey, I think I just did your job, I found you a Goddess :)

He's gorgeous, is our Jonas! As for the 65 dollar, plus shipping, tankard ... think of all the beer you could by with that 65 bucks!

Is the goddess Brigid the foremother of the saint Brigid, patroness of Ireland? Both seem to be dynamic, no-nonsense women to be reckoned with. Like this ones hat better tho.

Celtic goddess Brighid (pron. 'Brede') was also known as the keeper of the flame. She was translated into Christianity as St. Brigid. Legend has it that St. Brigid's convent kept a flame burning for years and years. There's a St. Bridget of Sweden too, but she's different. There are lots of legends attributed to St. Brighid which are really 'goddess' stores. Apparently the'saint' wanted some land and the king agreed to grant her as much land as would be covered by her cloak. So she spread her cloak and it covered several acres. Fascinating, what?

@Pasadena PIO..I've seen you in such a hat

Could the celtic goddess Brigid inspire the naming of one of my favorite Euro babes "Brigitte"? staring in my favorite reality shows "The Surreal World" and "Celebrity Rehab with Dr Drew"

Move over Jonas, Flaver Flav is in the house

AH: I know it may seem that Jonas is my new secret boyfriend, but I think he's a little too young for me. I'm letting him be my daughter's secret boyfriend. That's just the kind of giving mother I am.

Okay, I just followed your links to a bazillion other links and obviously none of them led me to Brigid. I don't even know what kind of goddess I need. I need a goddess of "Get me away from it all."

The photo of Brigid, the fiery goddess, isn't coming up with the page, even after hitting "refresh," though the link to the Wiki source works...here's a good brain-teaser for any web site procrastinator!
