Goddess of the Week: Lakshmi

Anonymous needs a goddess who will help her get a job. This one is easy. She needs the Hindi goddess of wealth and good fortune, Lakshmi.

Lakshmi is central to the Hindi celebration of lights, Diwali, during which time people light lanterns, set off fireworks and keep their homes brightly lit in the hopes that Lakshmi will notice them and grant them good fortune.

Now, what we need, Anon, is for Lakshmi to notice you. Here is what I recommend:

1. Don't hide your light under a bushel.
2. Shine like the spirit says shine.
3. But don't be a candle in the wind.

Do these things and Lakshmi will surely find you.  But when she does, be forewarned, Lakshmi never stays in one place for too long, so keep your resume up to date and remember that, in the best sense of the word, networking just means living an interesting life. So keep it fun!

Channel this goddess: When job hunting, when funds are running low, when heading to Las Vegas or Monte Carlo (and if you are heading for Monte Carlo invite me to be your accommodating traveling companion. I'm putting all my money on red!)

Need a goddess? I got goddesses! Post a comment explaining what you need or want a goddess for. Then check back in a few weeks and see what you got. It's fun! It's free! It's better than Craig's List.

I am not looking for a job (nor heading to Vegas any time soon), but I am not going to turn my back on the goddess of good fortune. And now, when M. complains about all the lights being on I will have a much better excuse.

You make networking sounds ever so attractive.

You do put a nice shine on networking, Margaret! It's much more helpful to look on it that way.

How many Goddesses are in the world, MF?

This is just the right goddess, Margaret. Thank you.

Hey! These word verifications haven't turned up any fun words lately, but I got one! "Assomean." I can use it when I need to get determined.

I like me some Lakshmi. Your second and third recommendation put Elton John in my head. And that's a good thing.

Isn't there a person on NPR with this first name? It's a beautiful name, for a Very Useful Goddess.

I love the post with suggestions on how to treat myself. Hey, I need a goddess. I goddess for boobies. I just went through a year of breast cancer treatment and reconstruction surgery. I'm all done, except for the nipple tattoo. Is there a boob goddess?

Patricia: I will can get you a goddess for that!

There had to be a boob goddess, didn't there? These goddesses have got us covered.
