All is Calm and Carry On

Feeling frazzled? Tied up in knots by holiday bows, receipts and expectations?
Take a deep OM breath. Let me help you put the "All is calm" back in Christmas.

1. Know your limits. Pour yourself a BIG glass of wine. This is, after all, the year of self gifting.

2. Know your space. My mother used to tell me that Santa never comes to a messy house. The truth is, he does. He is in fact a huge slob. A few dust bunnies or a refrigerator full of Easter ham will not get you on the naughty list.

3. Know who loves you; leave the competitive gifting to them. You can lose this race, and, in every way, you will be the richer for it.

4. Know what your body needs. It needs sleep, vegetables, laughter, and walks with the dog.

5. Know what your mind needs. It needs sleep, vegetables, laughter, and good books.

6. Know what your spirit needs. It needs, sleep, vegetables, laughter, and compassion.

Now take a hot bath. You are ready.

Sweet. I usually need Christmas cookies and Christmas carols. And when the same old tunes start wearing out, I hunt down songs from Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol.

I'm on the fence about the vegetables, but you nailed the rest of it.

Okay. I am rolling the Christmas fudge into carrot and string bean shapes. I will nibble them with my wine.

I second the advice for sleep, good books, and wine, but I cannot get behind the need for veggies.

Sage advice. I'd add the ceremonial eating of dark chocolate (along with red wine)to the list.

I've had my veggies and my dog walk, sleep, laughter, compassion, and I just finished reading an excellent book. But there's no way I can get an actual bath in our tub, it just doesn't work. But six out of seven ain't bad.

Sleep, laughter, vegetables, and a good, uplifting, Margaret Finnegan post. I'm ready now! (Okay, I forgot to eat vegetables today, but I am reading a good book, so that makes up for it, right??)

Hey! People!!! Chocolate is made from Coca beans...hence it's a legume...wine is made from grapes...hence fruit...what could be healthier than some chocolate and red wine??? (I would be indulging in my homemade See's fudge this morning if I hadn't left it in the fridge 300+ miles north of here!)

Merry Christmas to you all!!!

I am a little disturbed by all this anti-vegetable sentiment. Eat up your beets!

Such wise advice! I love me some veggies, but I appreciate the way Chieftess thinks, too. And I definitely need more sleep. Hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas, Margaret.
